چکیده

Additive manufacturing, also referred to as 3D printing, has the potential revolutionise construction industry, offering opportunities for enhanced design freedom and reduced material use. There is currently, however, very limited data concerning performance of additively manufactured metallic structural elements. To address this, an experimental numerical investigation into cross-sectional behaviour circular hollow sections (CHS), produced by powder bed fusion (PBF) from Grade 316L stainless steel powder, presented. The programme comprised tensile coupon tests, initial geometric imperfection measurements five axially loaded stub column tests on specimens with a range diameter-to-thickness (D/t) ratios. Similar that conventionally CHS was observed, more slender cross-sections displaying increased susceptible local buckling. In parallel study, simulations were carried out initially replicate results then conduct parametric studies extend capacity over wider D/t generated results, together other available test literature, used evaluate applicability existing approaches formed those additive manufacturing.

Additively manufactured hierarchical stainless steels with high strength and ductility.

Many traditional approaches for strengthening steels typically come at the expense of useful ductility, a dilemma known as strength-ductility trade-off. New metallurgical processing might offer the possibility of overcoming this. Here we report that austenitic 316L stainless steels additively manufactured via a laser powder-bed-fusion technique exhibit a combination of yield strength and tensil...

Additively Manufactured Porous Biomaterials and Implants

Recent advances in additive manufacturing (AM) techniques (otherwise known as 3D printing) have enabled fabrication of a new class of porous biomaterials (Figure 1) with arbitrarily complex and precisely controlled topologies that e.g. resemble the geometry and micro-architecture of (trabecular) bone. Since the geometry of scaffolds and biomaterials is an important factor in bone tissue regener...

Comparison of Laser-Engraved Hole Properties between Cold-Rolled and Laser Additive Manufactured Stainless Steel Sheets

Laser drilling and laser engraving are common manufacturing processes that are found in many applications. With the continuous progress of additive manufacturing (3D printing), these processes can now be applied to the materials used in 3D printing. However, there is a lack of knowledge about how these new materials behave when processed or machined. In this study, sheets of 316L stainless stee...

Mechanical Properties of Additively Manufactured Thick Honeycombs

Honeycombs resemble the structure of a number of natural and biological materials such as cancellous bone, wood, and cork. Thick honeycomb could be also used for energy absorption applications. Moreover, studying the mechanical behavior of honeycombs under in-plane loading could help understanding the mechanical behavior of more complex 3D tessellated structures such as porous biomaterials. In ...
